Bob Koenitzer
Sculpt Alaska dishes are individually hand-crafted from Alaskan stone by Bob Koenitzer. The pattern and shape of each piece is unique and highlights the natural qualities of the stone. Supply and production of these rare Alaska dishes is limited.
Bob Koenitzer moved to Southeast Alaska from Ohio in 1982. He began sculpting wood in 1991, learning from Ketchikan area artists Lou Cacioppo, Israel Shotridge and Jack Hudson. He received a Certificate of Merit in Northwest Coast Carving in 1994 from the Totem Heritage Center in Ketchikan. He began sculpting stone in 1999. Bob creates stone art that is visually pleasing with sensuous shapes and gentle curves, highlighting the natural features in each piece of stone. All of Sculpt Alaska art is made from Alaskan wood and stone gathered in Southeast Alaska. Bob lives in Juneau and has recently begun to use Mendenhall granite to create garden basins and candle lamps. In addition to stone dishes, bowls and basins, Bob creates masks from stone and wood.
