Member’s
Commitments to JAG
Members are in effect shareholders of the gallery and, as shareholders, share
the financial burdens—rent, phones, bankcard service, supplies, advertising,
and the like.
The following three basic financial contributions are required of members:
-
An Initiation Fee of $250: essentially a buy-in to the co-op. Of this amount,
$50 is refundable after the first year of membership is complete; the refund
is forfeited if a member fails to fulfill the 1-year contract with the co-op.
If necessary, and with board approval, this fee can be paid in up to 4 monthly
installments of $62.50. The initial gallery fees are the same for all new
members.
-
Monthly Fixed Expenses (primarily a prorated rent expense)
that covers the member’s individual portion of the gallery’s
fixed expenses. Currently the fixed expenses per standard size space is
$250.00 / month. This amount
may change as our shop lease changes, as our membership drops or rises,
or when we need to move into new shop space. The membership agreement commits
the artist to 12 months of fixed expenses, payable monthly. New members
may
join JAG with as little as one half of a standard size space allocation.
Fees for non-standard space allocations are prorated based on a standard
size space
fee-minimum is a half space.
-
A gallery Commission based on sales is deducted from artists’ monthly
checks to cover other shop costs, such as bankcard services, phone bills,
supplies and bookkeeping services. Currently the gallery commission is
12%. (Note: Members are paid only for sales of their own work, and they
are charged
these fees only on their individual sales.)
Non-Financial Commitments required of JAG members:
- JAG members agrees to sharing the responsibilities of operating and
managing the gallery. These duties include staffing the Gallery. Hours
to be worked
are assigned monthly by the JAG scheduling officer. The number of
hours required of each member is prorated by the amount of the members’ space allocation
and by the number of hours the Gallery is scheduled to be open. Summer hour
requirements are about twice those of winter hours (for a full space the required
monthly work hours are currently approximately 20 – 25 in summer and
10 – 15 in winter)
- JAG members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and thereby contribute
to the planning, managing, and operations of JAG. Members who attend meetings
are credited the time spent at the monthly meetings as hours worked.
- JAG members are encouraged to join standing committees, serve on special
committees, volunteer for standing and special appointed positions, and run
for the Board of Directors of JAG. Members are credited for there time spent
in these activities as hours worked for JAG.
